[Goldman Sachs Bans Most Employees from Using Advanced AI Programming Tools]
Odaily Planet Daily reports that Goldman Sachs has banned most of its employees from using advanced AI programming tools after assessing productivity and risk management issues, a move that has sparked discontent among some employees. For the past few months, Goldman Sachs has allowed its employees to use Anthropic's Claude Code and Microsoft's GitHub in their work.
However, according to an internal guidance updated in October, the bank has now restricted access to these tools to its engineering staff.
Sources familiar with the matter revealed that this ban has angered some traders. Previously, they used these tools to expedite client trading flow monitoring, market change and position modeling, and the creation of text and graphic content. This is not the first time Goldman Sachs has tightened restrictions on employees' access to specific AI tools. Earlier this year, the bank restricted Hong Kong employees' use of Anthropic's Claude. Another source indicated that the latest directive does not apply to employees referred to as "Strats," who primarily work at the intersection of trading, quantitative research, and software engineering.
