SpaceX is in talks with EchoStar about either acquiring its Boost Mobile wireless unit or gaining access to its network, according to The Washington Post. 🇺🇸 This is not really about Boost Mobile’s seven million subscribers. It is about whether the American wireless market stays a three company oligopoly or not. The Big Three’s refusal to offer SpaceX an MVNO deal tells you everything about how threatened they are. Hundreds of MVNOs already operate on their networks Cricket, Mint, Visible, Consumer Cellular, and dozens of others lease capacity and resell service without AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon losing sleep. But SpaceX is different, because SpaceX has something none of those MVNOs have: its own satellite constellation that can bypass the towers entirely.
