[South Korea Plans to Impose 11% Capital Gains Tax on Proceeds from US Stock Perpetual Contracts Starting in 2027] According to a report by South Korea's *Maeil Business Newspaper* on November 2nd, South Korean tax authorities have decided to classify US stock-linked perpetual contracts traded through overseas cryptocurrency exchanges as overseas stock derivatives. Starting in 2027, an 11% capital gains tax will be levied on related investment income, half the 22% tax rate for direct investments in US stocks.
The new regulations apply to US stock-linked perpetual contracts such as those for Nvidia, Apple, and Tesla offered by overseas exchanges like Binance. Investors will be eligible for a basic tax exemption of 2.5 million won per year; amounts exceeding this will be taxed at an 11% rate, and investors must self-report their trading income.
