[South Korean Media: Samsung Plans to Completely Exit 8-inch Wafer Foundry Business by 2030] According to a report by South Korean tech media TheElec on November 2nd, Samsung Electronics plans to completely exit the 8-inch wafer foundry business by 2030, shifting its strategic focus entirely to the more profitable 12-inch advanced process technology. The report indicates that Samsung will gradually reduce its 8-inch production lines. The S7 factory, located in the Giheung Campus, is planned to close first in the second half of 2026, with a monthly capacity of approximately 50,000 wafers. After the S7 closure, Samsung's total monthly 8-inch wafer capacity will drop from 250,000 wafers to below 200,000 wafers. The remaining S6 and S8 factories already had capacity utilization rates of approximately 70% at that time. Han Jin-man, head of Samsung's foundry business, had previously stated that competition in the 8-inch foundry market had become "increasingly crowded and price-driven," and the company planned to gradually reduce this business.
