[Brookfield Leads First $8 Billion GPU Financing in South Korea]
Odaily Planet Daily reports that global investment firm Brookfield has appointed KB Kookmin Bank as the lead arranger for the largest syndicated loan in South Korean history. The loan aims to finance South Korean tech giant NAVER's procurement of artificial intelligence chips. KB Kookmin Bank stated in a statement on Sunday that the loan funds will be used to purchase artificial intelligence computing infrastructure, including graphics processing units (GPUs).
The bank stated that the loan, amounting to 10.7 trillion won (approximately $8 billion), is part of a total financing package of 12.6 trillion won. The bank also noted that this is South Korea's first large-scale GPU financing deal, with the related AI chips to be provided to NAVER Cloud on a long-term lease basis. Asian banks and private lending funds are expanding their AI financing business, extending beyond data center construction to include hardware such as chips that provide computing power. (Jinshi)
