Let's examine @bb84sh, the initial coin offering (ICO) project of @SolRocketPad, to see what it actually does.
bb84sh is a post-quantum security infrastructure project built for Solana, with the slogan "Quantum-born. Quantum-proof."
Core Issue
Current blockchain wallet signature algorithms (such as Solana's Ed25519 and Ethereum's ECDSA) can be cracked by Shor's algorithm in the face of future large-scale quantum computers. Public keys on the blockchain are public, posing a "harvest now, decrypt later" risk. Protocol-level upgrades are slow and require consensus, so bb84 chooses to implement post-quantum capabilities at the application layer first.
Basic Principle
It combines two things:
1. Real Quantum Hardware (QPU)
It uses IBM Quantum, Amazon Braket, and other technologies to access real quantum computers (Rigetti, IBM, IQM, IonQ, etc.) to generate key seeds and quantum random numbers. Each quantum task leaves a receipt on Solana and is verified using an on-chain circuit simulator to ensure the result is authentic and reliable.
2. Post-Quantum Cryptography (Primarily Falcon-512)
Users' wallets/vaults use the Falcon-512 quantum-resistant signature algorithm.
- The public key is registered on-chain only once (approximately 897 bytes).
- Subsequent transactions only require a shorter signature.
- An irreversible Q-Day switch is provided: when enabled, even if the classic Ed25519 private key is stolen, funds can only be moved via Falcon signatures.
In short:
The real quantum computer is responsible for generating the key and randomness; Solana handles on-chain verification and custody. Users gain post-quantum level protection for their funds in advance through Falcon-512 wallets/vaults without needing to modify the Solana protocol itself. The core functionality is currently running on devnet.
The project also plans for Quantum ID (.quantum / .pqc domains), quantum random number services, and post-quantum messaging, forming a complete quantum security stack.
In conclusion
SolRocket has been online for many years but has only launched a few projects, a total of three: Solchat (1500x), ATH (180m), and OCTO (33m at its peak). The overall quality is decent, and all of these projects are supported by Toly.
Quantum blockchain is a promising direction, so it's worth keeping an eye on.
Of course, this doesn't mean that new projects will definitely make money, but it does require an opportunity. In short, DYOR...
