Ripple released 1 billion XRP from escrow on November 1, per U Today, the same as at the start of every month since the escrow went live in December 2017. And right on cue, the escrow dump theory is all over my feed again. Quick refresher for anyone newer. Ripple put 55 billion XRP into 55 separate contracts back then, each one opening a month after the last. When a billion comes out, Ripple uses some of it and, historically, has put most of the rest back into a new escrow contract at the end of the line. That's why the schedule has stretched way past the original 55 months. I don't think the dump theory explains much about this week. XRP fell about 4% on October 30 because Binance lost roughly $6.3B in a hack and the market saw over $1.5B in liquidations. The release itself has been on the calendar for nearly nine years, and anyone trading XRP could have marked the date. Same with the $389M and 310M XRP transfers from Ripple that got spun as mysterious last week. Big wallets move, people assume the worst, and the actual reason shows up later or never. Where I do agree with the critics is on discretion. Belisarius made the point well this week: the escrow was meant to make supply predictable, but Ripple decides how much of each billion reaches the market and how much gets relocked. So you can see the release coming but you can't model what happens after it with much confidence. A fixed monthly number, or even a published range, would end most of these arguments, though it'd also take away Ripple's room to hold back when markets are rough, like now. I go back and forth on it honestly. Would you rather Ripple commit to a fixed amount each month, or keep the flexibility to relock? https://u.today/1-billion-xrp-on-move-as-ripple-makes-first-escrow-release-in-november
