Binance's $6.3 billion theft has drawn the attention of the FBI, Secret Service, and Department of Justice!
The Binance hack has alarmed multiple major US law enforcement agencies. The FBI, the US Secret Service (AmericaS), the IRS Criminal Investigation Division (IRS-CI), and relevant units of the Department of Justice are all involved in the investigation.
The Secret Service has been the most aggressive.
According to its public statement, within minutes of the theft, investigators, in conjunction with industry organizations, identified and froze a large amount of stolen assets.
On October 31, the FBI officially attributed the over $6 billion theft to the North Korean hacking group TraderTraitor and called on exchanges, DeFi protocols, and cross-chain infrastructure to jointly intercept the funds involved.
It's quite a sight to behold.
Recovering a $6.3 billion hole is extremely difficult for Binance alone, but if US law enforcement agencies, stablecoin issuers, exchanges, and on-chain security companies can truly unite, the space for hackers to transfer and launder money will be continuously reduced.
Hopefully, this will lead to the recovery of more funds, and hopefully, the entire cryptocurrency industry can achieve this level of collaborative efficiency in the future. Hackers can operate across borders, and recovering stolen assets also requires international cooperation.
