[Gyeonggi Province Suspends Stablecoin Application Research Project Awaiting Clarification of Digital Asset Basic Law and Other Policies] According to a report by South Korean media NexBlock on November 1st, Gyeonggi Province has temporarily suspended its research project on introducing stablecoins, primarily due to the need for further evaluation of relevant policies and the regulatory environment, including the Digital Asset Basic Law. The Gyeonggi Provincial Government emphasized that the project has not been cancelled. The research project, launched in early July this year, aimed to explore the application of stablecoins in local government payment systems such as local currencies, consumption vouchers, and public subsidies. It planned to verify privacy protection, fund reserves, and double-spending prevention functions using technologies such as zero-knowledge proofs (ZK) and proof-of-reserve (PoR). Gyeonggi Provincial officials stated that the project has not yet made substantial progress, and the first round of proof-of-concept (PoC) originally scheduled for August is not part of the government's officially confirmed timeline. Subsequent testing dates will be determined in consultation with the project implementers, and the research project, originally scheduled to end in February 2027, may also be delayed.
