Are these THORChain guys really that fearless? The FBI demanded they stop North Korean hackers from laundering money, and the co-founder pretended not to understand!
Binance suffered a theft of over $6 billion in assets, and the FBI has officially identified the North Korean hacking group TraderTraitor as the culprit, releasing the relevant wallet addresses and specifically naming THORChain node operators, demanding they stop the transfer of stolen funds.
The response from THORChain co-founder Chad Barraford was astonishing: "On-chain information is public; law enforcement can check it themselves. There's no need for subpoenas."
Damn, the FBI isn't asking for information; they're asking you to stop hackers from laundering money!
Even MetaMask's security head, Taylor Monahan, couldn't help but directly criticize: "They're not asking for information; this is a warning! Stop messing around!"
Thankfully, yesterday THORChain triggered an emergency suspension due to a duplicate refund of 10 ETH, affecting cross-chain exchanges across 12 chains, which unexpectedly slowed down the hackers' money laundering efforts.
Decentralization is not a get-out-of-jail-free card, and protocol neutrality cannot be a universal excuse for evading responsibility.
