According to Bloomberg, there were signs of on-chain testing prior to the Binance hack, which targeted approximately $6.3 billion in assets. Security researchers discovered that the attackers had previously used Ethereum accounts under their control to test the attack program on a scale of only a few dollars each time. The attack was then launched after 4:00 AM Beijing time on October 30th, transferring over $6 billion in assets from Binance wallets across at least four blockchains. When Binance co-CEO He Yi noticed the anomaly via X, the company's security and wallet teams initiated emergency response. Within minutes, Binance assembled a multinational emergency response team of approximately 100 people to coordinate with security agencies and law enforcement to trace the funds. Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter, reported that some Binance employees privately worried that the incident would prevent them from receiving their bonuses this year, but a Binance spokesperson stated that employee bonuses are not expected to be affected.
