It was only later that it was discovered the hackers who stole Binance funds were using Thorchain again.
From Bybit to KelpDAO to Balance to Bitget and now Binance, the hackers who stole from them all reached a consensus on using @THORChain to transfer their stolen funds.
Because Thorchain claims to be a completely decentralized infrastructure, incapable of centralized freezing, it has never had a history of freezing hacker funds.
However, this time an unexpected event occurred. During the hackers' transfer of funds, an Ethereum reorganization triggered a double refund, thus triggering Thorchain's emergency suspension mechanism. As of now, most of Thorchain's cross-chain swaps remain suspended, forcing the hackers to use other bridges to transfer the funds.
The FBI has publicly called on Thorchain to cooperate in intercepting the hackers' addresses. Given Thorchain's past practices, it's highly unlikely they will cooperate.
