Some people are saying, "Binance suffered such a large theft, why isn't China doing anything about North Korea?"
Seeing such comments makes me laugh out loud.
Decentralized blockchains are beyond the control of even the exchanges themselves, how can China regulate them?
China's most direct approach would be for eight departments to work together to completely ban the unchecked growth and trading of cryptocurrencies in China.
The landscape has completely changed.
Wall Street has taken control of Bitcoin's pricing power. Even the FBI, touted as the global police, can only watch helplessly and issue sanctions lists against a state-sponsored APT group like North Korea.
The US can't do anything about Pyongyang, so expecting China to intervene in North Korea's domestic affairs?
This is a dark comedy of geopolitics.
Decentralization means no one is there to back you up; a state-sponsored cyberattack means it's impossible to defend against.
Even if the exchange guarantees your money, it won't protect you from hacker attacks.
Stop expecting anyone to act as a righteous guardian.
In the cryptocurrency world, the only things that can protect you are a cold wallet and your own vigilance.
