Chainalysis, an on-chain tracking firm, has analyzed data showing that the North Korean hacking group that stole $6.3 billion from Binance is using an unprecedented money laundering method.
Thousands of transactions were completed on-chain in a very short time. The money didn't just leave the exchange; it was transferred back and forth between numerous addresses, with even previously used addresses being reused as money laundering pathways.
Crucially, this money was mixed on-chain with funds stolen from another exchange, Bitget, last month. That incident was already identified as being carried out by North Korea, further confirming that Binance was attacked by the North Korean government.
It is expected that this money will continue to be laundered and transferred at an accelerated pace in the coming days, with the ultimate goal of flowing to North Korea.
