Dallas Fed President Logan, who is also a voting member for 2026, said today that based on the current economic outlook, the Fed needs to raise interest rates at least twice more, 25 basis points each time. After that, it can pause to observe economic and financial conditions before deciding whether further action is needed. Logan believes that with the core PCE rate still at 3.1% year-over-year in September, inflation has not yet returned to the 2% target, and with strong economic growth and a generally balanced job market, interest rates need to be raised to exert some restraint on the economy. While Logan supported keeping interest rates unchanged at this week's policy meeting, she believes that slowing the pace of rate hikes during periods of high market volatility would allow households, businesses, and markets time to adapt to higher rates.
