Tether's Q3 report is out, and the first thing I looked at wasn't the profit, but the buffer. According to the audit report released by @tether on October 30th and issued by BDO, as of September 30th: total assets were approximately $191.45 billion, total liabilities were approximately $183.5 billion, and excess reserves were $7.95 billion, compared to $4.1 billion at the end of Q2. Q3 net operating profit was $1.5 billion, bringing the total for the first three quarters to $4.5 billion, which the company says mainly came from US Treasury bonds and reverse repurchase agreements. Looking further down the reserves table: cash and equivalents are approximately $139.58 billion, accounting for slightly over 70% of total assets; gold is approximately $19.08 billion (valued at $4,157.41 per ounce); Bitcoin is approximately $8.37 billion (valued at $83,621.23 per ounce, equivalent to approximately 100,000 BTC); and secured loans are approximately $14.18 billion. I did a rough calculation myself: based on @coinbase's price of approximately $77,354 this morning, these 100,000 BTC are worth about $600 million less than the price on September 30th. This isn't an official figure, and the quarterly report only covers September 30th. Profits mainly come from government bonds; the thickness of the buffer is partly influenced by the price of gold and cryptocurrencies. @paoloardoino said USDT users have exceeded 700 million; I'll turn to this page first when the next report comes out.
