[18th Anniversary of Bitcoin White Paper Release: Wall Street Embraces Crypto Assets, Decentralization Faces Test]
Odaily Planet Daily reports that on October 31, 2008, Satoshi Nakamoto released the Bitcoin white paper, proposing a peer-to-peer electronic payment system that eliminates the need for banks or central institutions. Over the past 18 years, Bitcoin has evolved from a fringe experiment on the dark web and in forums to an asset class recognized by Wall Street and institutional investors. Last October, $19 billion in leveraged positions were liquidated in a single day, and the 2022 crypto winter caused the market capitalization of digital assets to evaporate by more than $2 trillion. On the 18th anniversary of the Bitcoin white paper's release, the price of Bitcoin hovers around $80,000, facing its worst month since June.
Currently, BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF has reached approximately $66 billion in size, many listed companies have included Bitcoin in their balance sheets, and traditional financial institutions are actively developing stablecoins, asset tokenization, and blockchain financial infrastructure. However, this development also presents a contrast: Bitcoin, initially intended to challenge the centralized financial system, is now increasingly being accepted by traditional financial institutions.
