[Zcash Community Proposes Development and Legal Defense Fund, Ending ZCG Funding] According to a report by Jinse Finance on October 31st, the Zcash community forum announced a draft ZIP (Zone Project Initiation) by Zooko Wilcox of Shielded Labs and Sean Bowe of Tachyon Group, among others. The draft proposes terminating the 8% block subsidy funding from the Zcash Community Funding Program (ZCG) and instead depositing it into a newly established "Future Development and Legal Defense Fund Lockbox," locked until the third halving. The intended use of this fund will be determined in subsequent ZIPs. Furthermore, ZCG must donate 50,000 ZEC tokens, approximately 55% of its ZEC holdings, to a non-spendable address within 30 days of the draft's acceptance by the community. The draft states that the surge in ZEC's value has resulted in the ZCG treasury holding approximately $125 million at $1,300 per token, with the 8% funding annualized at approximately $68 million, more than seven times its annual expenditure. This draft is still in the draft stage, unassigned, and represents a consensus layer modification; competing proposals are also pending.
