[Binance CEO: Committed to Full Coverage of Losses, Target to Issue Proof of Reserves Report on Monday] Jinse Finance reports that Binance CEO Richard Teng released a full transcript of his statement regarding the incident on the X platform. He thanked users, partners, and law enforcement agencies, clarifying that Binance will use company funds to fully cover all losses from this hack, ensuring the safety of user assets. Binance has reserved over $6.34 billion in corporate funds for compensation, of which $5 billion is for affected native tokens such as USDC, USDT, BTC, ETH, and BNB; user funds were not affected, with the vast majority stored in cold wallets. The compromised asset was Binance's own hot wallet.
Investigations indicate this was a complex attack, not a solo act. Initially, an engineer's laptop was suspected of being compromised, but multiple entry points were subsequently discovered. The attacker also used self-destruct tools to erase traces and leveraged the EIP-7702 multi-signature protocol to gain on-chain execution permissions in the hot wallet, bypassing standard approval processes. Therefore, the platform has suspended withdrawal services.
The platform is rebuilding its withdrawal service and expects to restore it within 40 hours (before Sunday's deadline); a company-wide security audit is also underway; the remaining token assets will be replenished through the market and OTC channels, and a full Proof-of-Reserve (PoR) report is planned for release on Monday, with the aim of releasing an initial version ahead of schedule. Simultaneously, the platform is collaborating with law enforcement, on-chain intelligence agencies, and other exchanges to track down and recover stolen assets.
