[Binance Attacker Suspected of Accidentally Transferring $3.5 Million Worth of Tokens to NEWT Contract Address; Assets Permanently Locked]
BlockBeats reported on October 30th that the Newton Foundation stated that the attackers involved in the Binance theft earlier today apparently mistakenly transferred approximately 8 million NEWT tokens and 17 other tokens directly to the NEWT token contract address. These tokens, at current prices, are worth approximately $3.5 million. The list includes tokens such as ANIME, ANKR, ARPA, BARD, FTT, LQTY, SIGN, and WOO.
The Foundation emphasized that the NEWT token contract itself was not compromised. Upon inspection, the contract is immutable, has no owner or administrator, and all administrative privileges were relinquished on-chain in 2025. Upgrade functionality has also been permanently disabled. Therefore, no one, including the Foundation, can retrieve the tokens directly transferred to the contract.
The Foundation stated that these tokens are now permanently locked, out of the attackers' control, and cannot be sold on the market. The findings of the investigation have been communicated to Binance, and the foundation will continue to provide assistance. [Original Link]
