Many people's first impression of WalletConnect (@WalletConnect) is limited to scanning a QR code to connect their wallet.
It's now more like a connecting network, linking wallets, applications, and institutions on one side. The product being promoted mainly consists of these parts: SDKs for applications, SDKs for wallets, Pay, and an Agent SDK (still in beta). Scanning the code is just the entry point. The real value lies in the ability to access how much money is in the wallets, how many users are there, and how many real-world payment scenarios are being explored.
Yesterday's news brought the story a step closer to reality: Bermuda publicly announced its ambition to become the world's first fully blockchain-based national economy. For the payment layer, they chose @WalletConnect Pay, partnering with local Penrose Partners to promote it to merchants. The first merchant is PTIX, the largest ticketing platform in Bermuda. Funds are transferred directly from the user's wallet to the organizer's wallet; the ticketing platform doesn't handle the funds. The official launch date is Q2 2027. Don't be misled by the headline into thinking you can buy tickets today.
On the same day, Stellar connected to the WalletConnect network, linking to 700+ wallets and approximately 9... Hundreds of millions of end users
Wallets and custodians like Fireblocks, Utila, LOBSTR, and Arculus were on the list from day one.
LOBSTR has already successfully run WC Pay on Stellar.
On one hand, national-level pilot programs are still in the pipeline; on the other hand, on-chain settlement has been launched first.
Don't confuse these two timelines into "all launched."
Looking deeper, the utility discussion for WCT is still undecided.
The governance forum has launched an Open Design. The question is about how the network can make money, how the token can handle fees and incentives, and how value can flow back to token holders. The post itself is very clear: it's soliciting ideas, not promising a model, a timeline, or guaranteeing any particular suggestion will be adopted. Don't treat forum posts as proof of a fully implemented token economics. Token holders who want to criticize or raise issues should at least read the design space first.
From my perspective, these three issues combined boil down to a few practical points:
If the infrastructure only focuses on QR code scanning, it won't be able to support institutional and government pilot programs. Having real merchants, clear funding paths, and whether token utility can be linked to real transaction volume are more effective than constantly shouting about the "next narrative."
The Bermuda issue is still far off, but Stellar Pay is already working. The utility side is still debating the design space. First, clarify the timeline before deciding which part to believe.
