Binance was hacked in the early hours of the morning, with approximately $6.3 billion stolen, in what is being called the largest theft in history. The entry point wasn't a direct system breach, but rather the hacking of an operations engineer's laptop. The attackers then used this access to submit unauthorized withdrawals. At 4:20 AM, multiple hot wallets began transferring funds out.
It wasn't a breach of the vault; they first obtained the key to the vault.
Much of the stolen money was stablecoins, which the issuers could freeze directly: Tether froze approximately $1.57 billion, Circle froze approximately $820 million, and currently, all parties have frozen approximately $3 billion, with the remainder still being pursued.
$6.3 billion in assets, the last line of defense was a laptop.
So the question is, do you think Kim Jong-un was behind it?
