Binance suffered a loss of approximately $6.3 billion, and in less than a day, nearly half of it has been frozen or recovered. The pursuit of the funds has proven more difficult than I anticipated. Around 4 AM this morning, hackers gained control of several Binance hot wallets and transferred over 60 different assets within approximately 20 minutes. This is the largest cryptocurrency theft on record. Stablecoin companies were the first to be targeted. Tether alone froze 1.567 billion USDT, Circle froze approximately 823 million USDC, and Ripple and World Liberty also froze their own tokens. Binance itself may have been involved in the theft. On-chain analysis suggests that even after the wallets were compromised, Binance's signing keys remained usable, allowing Binance to use them to send transactions through the compromised wallets and reclaim USDC in real time. Binance has not yet officially confirmed this. The hackers also left approximately $30.25 million worth of ETH and ARB on the Arbitrum blockchain, without transferring them out. As a result, the Arbitrum security committee directly transferred the money from his wallet. Hacker's address: https://(arkm.com)/explorer/address/0x3E2bf1ac6bf0934BBba6456C341c2EcbCED632d5 The hacker knew the stablecoins would be frozen, and while transferring the money, he hurriedly exchanged his USDT for ETH. The total amount frozen by all parties, verified by Binance, is now approximately $3 billion. However, the hacker still holds approximately 18,000 BTC (approximately $1.4 billion) and over 460,000 ETH (approximately $1 billion). Since BTC and ETH on the mainnet have no issuer, no one can freeze this portion.
