Today's Binance security incident serves as a wake-up call!
To some extent, it's helping the industry rebuild a broader set of rules, prompting us to rethink a crucial issue: exchanges can compete on trading volume, products, and users, but they shouldn't fight amongst themselves on asset security.
I strongly agree with Star @star_okx's point: we need to build industry consensus and a shared security community. In the past, when discussing exchange security, we focused more on private key custody, cold and hot wallet isolation, and proof of reserves. However, this incident reminds us that even without direct private key leaks, wallet management systems and access controls can still become entry points.
One detail Star mentioned is crucial: security restrictions on abnormal authorizations and large transfers should be implemented at the signature layer, rather than relying solely on application-level risk control.
Simultaneously, the industry needs to establish cross-platform security collaboration mechanisms.
In the event of an attack, exchanges, stablecoin issuers, and on-chain security institutions can share information, track funds, and take necessary legal freezing measures in the shortest possible time, minimizing losses.
Mercy (@Mercy_okx) is right: security is everyone's responsibility; no single company can single-handedly safeguard the future of the crypto industry!
However, I'd like to add two points:
1️⃣ The industry's shared responsibility for security does not mean that individual platforms can absolve themselves of responsibility. Transparent disclosure, loss assessment, and incident review are equally important. Building consensus together and mitigating risks together is ultimately the key.
2️⃣ As an investor, I firmly believe that we should not entrust the security of all our assets to any single exchange.
As a ten-year veteran, I sincerely hope that this incident will ultimately push the entire crypto industry forward in terms of security. Just as the world is constantly changing, security is inseparable. I urge the industry to unite against the hegemony of hackers.
Missing market opportunities is acceptable, but once asset security is compromised, there is no second chance.
