AAVE has preemptively frozen deposits and loans, but withdrawals are normal. This is disgusting. The hackers knew Tether would intervene and freeze the funds, so they deposited 60M USDT into AAVE and then borrowed the equivalent of 44M ETH. They probably don't intend to repay it; they've simply abandoned the extra 16M USDT margin. Because Tether (and Circle) intervene by preventing a specific address from transferring USDT, and AAVE's liquidity pool is obviously a large one, freezing it would inadvertently harm innocent users. If no one intervenes, normally, the only option is to wait for ETH to rise and interest to cause this money to evaporate. Of course, if Binance pursues legal avenues similar to rsETH, it still has a chance to recover the remaining value of the stolen funds.
