Its attack history: 2014: Attacked Sony Pictures, stealing a large amount of internal data and damaging the system. 2016: Infiltrated the Central Bank of Bangladesh, stealing approximately $81 million through the SWIFT international banking system. 2017: Linked to the WannaCry global ransomware attack, affecting numerous businesses and institutions worldwide. 2022: The theft of approximately $620 million from Ronin Bridge, becoming one of the largest hacking incidents in the crypto industry at the time. 2025: Bybit suffered a theft of approximately $1.5 billion; the FBI officially attributed the attack to North Korean hackers, naming it TraderTraitor. Chainalysis's statistics are even more staggering: In 2025, North Korean-related hackers stole approximately $2.02 billion in crypto assets, bringing the total amount stolen to $6.75 billion. This money is considered a crucial channel for North Korea to circumvent international sanctions and obtain foreign exchange; some funds were also used to support its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs.
