Binance: Theft Originated from a DevOps Engineer's Computer Intrusion, Total Losses Approximately $6.3 Billion, No Private Key Leaks Found
Binance released preliminary investigation results of the security incident, stating that attackers allegedly compromised a DevOps engineer's computer, gained access to the company's service container, and submitted unauthorized withdrawal transactions. No wallet private keys have been found to have been leaked.
Binance stated that the total estimated loss from this incident is approximately $6.3 billion, and approximately $3 billion has been frozen in conjunction with on-chain partners. The remaining losses will be fully covered by the SAFU Fund and the company's own funds, ensuring the safety of user funds.
Currently, Binance has suspended deposits and withdrawals, revoked authorizations for affected addresses, and is working with law enforcement agencies and on-chain analytics teams to trace funds. Binance stated that a detailed technical review will be released upon completion of the investigation, and an updated proof of reserves will be published after the rectification is completed.
