Binance's recent incident certainly highlights security vulnerabilities that require explanation and rectification. Currently, approximately $3 billion has been frozen, but freezing does not equate to recovery; the final loss still awaits verification. However, this incident hasn't changed my views on asset security. Personally, I still prefer storing cryptocurrency assets on the largest, leading centralized exchanges, which gives me more peace of mind than keeping them in my own wallet or on DeFi platforms. The reason is simple: I don't believe my ability to defend against hackers is stronger than that of professional teams. Wallets have risks related to private keys, phishing, and authorization, while DeFi carries contract risks. Having control of the private keys doesn't eliminate these risks. Of course, storing assets on exchanges also carries the platform's operational and credit risks; being a leading exchange doesn't replace risk control. The coordinated asset freezing by multiple institutions has shown me the value of industry collaboration. If a security alliance can be gradually formed, allowing for faster coordination in tracking, interception, and freezing, the difficulty for hackers to transfer and launder money will increase significantly. There's nothing to be gloating about in the event of a theft. The ability to bear the losses, recover assets, investigate the cause, and patch vulnerabilities is the true measure of Binance's and the industry's progress.
