[EIP-7702 Authorization Used to Transfer Binance Wallet Assets; $780 Million in USDC Transferred Out] According to Bitcoin News, on-chain analysis suggests that attackers allegedly exploited the Ethereum EIP-7702 mechanism to obtain signature authorization and install malicious code without direct access to the private keys of their associated Binance wallets. The attackers then invoked a function called "sweep" to transfer ETH and dozens of other tokens into wallets under their control. The same delegation authority was also allegedly used to transfer $780 million in USDC from another Binance hot wallet. The attackers' transaction relay received funds through Tornado Cash, and subsequently, nearly 195,460 ETH were transferred to a newly created wallet. How the attackers obtained the authorization is unclear. Binance stated that user funds are safe and is currently investigating.
