[Document Reveals Alphabet's AI Exposure Exceeds $1 Trillion] Odaily reports that Alphabet stated its cloud service demand is growing rapidly, as evidenced by the increase in its "backlog" (i.e., unfulfilled cloud service contracts). However, more than a third of this quarterly growth comes from a joint venture in which the company holds a stake. This information was disclosed in a quarterly filing submitted Thursday. The document outlines the AI-related risks facing Alphabet, extending beyond what the company discussed in its earnings call the previous day. In addition to the more than $1 trillion in procurement commitments, future lease payments, and other obligations disclosed by the CFO on the investor call, the document lists approximately $98.5 billion in contingent commitments—obligations the company may need to assume under certain conditions. This amount is about $23 billion higher than the previous quarter. These commitments include: guaranteeing data center lease payments, supporting partners in procuring power equipment, and potentially repurchasing AI chip systems from customers in specific circumstances.
