[Google's Debt Risk Metrics Rise, Earnings Report Sparks New Concerns About AI Debt] Golden Finance reports that on Thursday, October 29th, Alphabet, Google's parent company, saw a sharp drop in stock price, coinciding with a rise in its debt default insurance costs. Disappointing earnings reports exacerbated market concerns that the company's massive debt-fueled investments in artificial intelligence might not yield the expected returns. According to data from ICE Data Services, the price of five-year credit default swaps (CDS), a measure of Google's debt default risk, rose by as much as 5.3 basis points to 84 basis points per annum, the largest increase since September 21st. Insurance costs for other hyperscale cloud service provider Meta Platforms and chip company Broadcom also increased. Barclays credit strategist Gigal Patel, analyzing transaction archive data, found that as of last week, CDS trading volume related to the world's top ten hyperscale cloud service providers and chip manufacturers had increased more than eightfold this year, reaching $176 billion. Some swap contracts, such as those related to SpaceX, only began trading in recent months; the most actively traded are Oracle's CDS contracts. The transaction volume in 2026 is expected to increase nearly fivefold compared to the previous year, reaching $46.8 billion.
