"Following" only displays posts from subreddits the user follows; "For You" mixes posts from followed communities with interest-based recommendations. Reddit stated that this is part of its efforts to simplify the platform and enhance homepage personalization, having previously announced the discontinuation of r/all, which displays popular posts across the entire site. The new version remembers the user's last used feed and defaults to that feed upon reopening. Users can still access the old homepage, sorted by best, hot, new, rising, and controversial, through old. (reddit.com) or Old Reddit in settings, but Reddit plans to tighten access restrictions for accounts that haven't recently used Old Reddit. Reddit stated that the new feed is the first step in helping users discover new ideas, new connections, and new interests.
