[38 Companies Oppose OKXICE's Tokenized Stock Plan, Approximately 60% of Target Companies] Odaily Planet Daily reports that OKXICE's updated announcement on October 28th revealed that Walmart, Eli Lilly, Cigna, Carnival Corporation, and Arcos Dorados have opposed its stock tokenization plan. With these five new additions, 38 out of the 63 target companies have officially opposed it, representing approximately 60%; the combined market capitalization of these companies exceeds $19.4 billion.
OKXICE, a joint venture between cryptocurrency exchange OKX and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), plans to allow eligible investors to trade blockchain-mapped tokens of US stocks 24/7 using stablecoins. The tokens will be backed by real-world stock held by registered broker-dealers, and trading will be conducted through permissioned Uniswap v4 liquidity pools on the OKX X Layer network.
The temporary regulatory exemption established by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in September allows eligible platforms to conduct stock tokenization trading without complying with certain requirements of traditional exchanges and allows publicly traded companies to oppose third-party tokenization of their shares. The announcement listed the companies that objected, but did not specify their reasons. (Bitcoin.com News)
