Using tokenized stocks as the leg in a spot market to hedge against stock perpetual contracts and systematically profit from basis and funding fees—rToken brings the most mature yield strategy in crypto to the US stock market. Bitget and Keyring have partnered to build a rules-based stock basis index and related on-chain lending market based on Reality's rToken.
Previously, a common strategy in the crypto market was to hold spot Bitcoin (BTC) and short the corresponding perpetual contract (perp), aiming for near Delta neutrality and primarily profiting from positive funding rates. The long position paid the short position, providing a stable cash flow for the short position while hedging most of the price directional risk.
This time, Bitget + Reality + Keyring has brought the same logic to the stock market: using Reality's rToken (tokenized stock exposure, equivalent to an "on-chain spot leg") and shorting the corresponding stock perpetual contract to capture funding rate and basis opportunities, while simultaneously using rToken as collateral for financing in the on-chain lending market. The rules-based index systematically filters and allocates these pairings. Traditional US stockbrokers previously offered similar models (using futures contracts), but the experience, tools, and sustainability lagged far behind the current perpetual + on-chain combination.
Bitget's approach replaces the "spot leg" with on-chain rTokens, the hedging leg with perpetual stocks, and adds on-chain lending and a programmable vault, creating a more modular, composable, and rule-based execution version. They plan to reach a wider audience through channels like Bitget Earn. This represents an evolution from traditional "institution-driven basis trading" to "on-chain, programmable, and more easily accessible."
For institutions and professional traders, this translates to access to systematic screening and configuration tools, improved capital efficiency with rTokens as collateral, programmable vaults and risk monitoring support, and modular components for building customized strategies. They can capture funding rate and basis opportunities within liquidity and risk constraints, while managing financing and liquidation using on-chain infrastructure.
From a broader perspective, tokenized stocks are expanding from simple exposure tools to collateralized lending, asset management, and systematic strategies. This will help drive the deep integration of RWA (Real-World Assets) and DeFi, improve cross-market capital efficiency, and provide a new paradigm for liquidity, risk pricing, and operating models between traditional and crypto markets.
