A year ago, Hyperliquid founder Jeff joked with Jeff Sprecher, CEO of ICE, the parent company of the NYSE, that ICE would be successful the day it started using Hyperliquid's technology. Today, that joke has come true. ICE announced a partnership with Trade[XYZ], the largest marketplace builder on Hyperliquid, to bring perpetual contracts to the regulated U.S. market. Even more unexpectedly, a Wall Street heavyweight posted his first tweet about this
ICE and Trade[XYZ] plan to build a brand new trading and clearing system called ICE[XYZ]. Perpetual contracts on the platform will cover stocks, indices, commodities, forex, and crypto assets, with 24/7 trading. According to the announcement cited by jeff.hl, the division of labor is as follows: Hyperliquid will provide the underlying technology through HIP-3, Trade[XYZ] will be responsible for market design, and ICE will be responsible for operating the regulated market and clearing. Distribution to retail investors will be handled by a joint venture between ICE and OKX. OKX founder Star also confirmed the collaboration on social media today. ICE has also made a strategic investment in Trade[XYZ], the amount of which has not been disclosed. The entire project is still awaiting CFTC approval, and the launch date is yet to be determined.
