Microsoft Launches First High-Grade Dollar Bond Issuance Since 2017, Aims to Raise at Least $25 Billion
Odaily Planet Daily reports that Microsoft (MSFT.O) is conducting its first high-grade bond issuance in over nine years, joining its peers in a surge of borrowing as AI investment fuels a boom in financing demand. According to sources, Microsoft plans to issue benchmark bonds in 10 tranches, with maturities ranging from 2 to 40 years. The initial pricing guidance for the longest tranche (maturing in 2066) is up to 1.35 percentage points above the yield on U.S. Treasury bonds. Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase, and UBS will handle the issuance.
Sources indicate that the proceeds will be used for general corporate purposes, including capital expenditures. This issuance ends Microsoft's long-standing absence from the bond market; its last high-grade bond issuance was in 2017, when it raised $17 billion through a seven-tranche issuance. Further news indicates that Microsoft plans to raise at least $25 billion through this U.S. bond issuance.
