[London Metal Exchange Explores Tokenizing Hong Kong Warehouse Metal Inventory for Loan Collateral Financing] According to Reuters, the London Metal Exchange (LME), owned by the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX), plans to convert metals stored in its Hong Kong warehouses into digital assets that can be used for financing. Three sources familiar with the matter said the plan is related to Hong Kong's goal of expanding its commodity trading hub in its five-year plan and is expected to attract investors, traders, and financiers, generating new revenue streams for the LME. The LME stated that it is in the early stages of exploring the tokenization of non-warehouse receipt metal inventory to support corporate financing and plans to hold an invitation-only industry roundtable in early November. Hong Kong plans to leverage its position as an accredited delivery point within the LME's global warehousing network to promote synergy between commodity trading, risk management, and financing. The HKEX is also testing the conversion of carbon credits into digital tokens for faster settlement.
