[LME Explores Tokenizing Hong Kong Warehouse Metal Inventory for Loan Collateral and Financing] Odaily Planet Daily reports that the London Metal Exchange (LME), a subsidiary of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX), is exploring tokenizing metal inventory stored in Hong Kong warehouses, making it a digital asset that can be used as collateral for loans and other financing activities, in line with Hong Kong's strategy to develop into an international commodity trading center. The LME stated that it is currently in the early stages of tokenizing metal inventory without issued warehouse receipts. Unlike warehouse receipt metals, which already have standardized financing mechanisms, this type of inventory currently lacks mature financing channels. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that the LME plans to hold a closed-door industry roundtable meeting in early November to discuss the plan. The HKEX is also testing carbon credit tokenization to achieve near real-time transaction settlement.
