AI is taking away entry-level jobs, with US computer science programs losing nearly 20% of students in two years.
According to preliminary data released Thursday by the National Student Information Exchange Center, cited by Bloomberg, undergraduate enrollment in computer science and information science at US colleges and universities fell by more than 12% this fall, while graduate enrollment fell by more than 10%.
This marks the second consecutive year of decline, with a cumulative loss of 18.4% for undergraduates and 27.1% for graduate students over the two years.
A report from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics in August also indicated that computer and mathematics jobs have been hit hardest by AI.
