[Beijing Handles First Case of Pyramid Scheme Using Blockchain and Virtual Currency; Company Fined 930,000 Yuan] According to a report by Jinse Finance on October 29th, citing the Beijing Daily, the Haidian District Market Supervision Bureau of Beijing recently investigated and handled the city's first case of illegal activities involving the use of blockchain and virtual currency technology to assist pyramid schemes. A technology company was fined a total of over 930,000 yuan. The company provided outsourced services such as technical operation and maintenance, marketing, exchange integration, and maintenance for a public blockchain. This public blockchain previously launched the "Atomic Plan" and the "Hathaway Plan," requiring participants to invest funds to gain membership and offering rebates based on the number of people recruited. The regulatory authorities determined that the company, despite being aware that the projects were suspected of being pyramid schemes, continued to provide technical and operational support, facilitating the flow of funds and the spread of pyramid scheme activities.
