[Beijing Investigates First Case of Pyramid Scheme Using Blockchain and Virtual Currency; Tech Company Fined Over 930,000 Yuan] According to the Beijing Daily client, the Haidian District Market Supervision Bureau of Beijing investigated the city's first case of illegal activities involving the use of blockchain and virtual currency technology to assist pyramid schemes. A tech company was fined a total of over 930,000 yuan. The tech company involved was an outsourcing service provider for a public blockchain, providing support in operation, marketing, promotion, exchange integration, and maintenance. This public blockchain launched the "Atomic Plan" and "Hathaway Plan," which were based on a pyramid scheme of recruiting new members and using the number of recruits as the basis for rebates, requiring participants to invest funds to gain membership. Despite being aware that the public blockchain was used for pyramid schemes, the company continued to provide technical maintenance, external publicity, and virtual currency trading channel maintenance services, facilitating the flow of funds and the spread of pyramid scheme activities.
