Ethereum developer Kevaundray Wedderburn has submitted an update to EIP-8450, aiming to simplify the transition to a quantum-resistant cryptographic system. The update proposes to eliminate the path and related execution layer contracts for post-quantum key registration authorized through withdrawal addresses. Instead, validators will be responsible for the registration and replacement of post-quantum keys using their existing BLS signature keys. The update also includes a key replacement interval of at least 256 epochs and a replay attack protection mechanism. Furthermore, the proposal adds a VRF tree root to the registration key and further simplifies the cryptographic specifications.
