It seems brothers are meant to be betrayed. A 20-year-old Canadian man, since the age of 17, had been impersonating customer service, repeatedly calling cryptocurrency holders, claiming their wallets had been stolen, demanding their wallet keys, and then withdrawing their coins.
This March, he used this method to steal 185 bitcoins, now worth $14.78 million.
On the day of the successful theft, he messaged his accomplices, boasting about achieving his goal of 185 bitcoins. Witnesses said he even shared his screenshots on community channels, demonstrating how to steal the coins.
Afterwards, he lived a life of extravagance, constantly buying luxury cars, renting private jets, and frequenting nightclubs.
Then, that same month, he was pulled over by police in the back of a Rolls-Royce Cullinan for speeding, and the car smelled of marijuana. His friends, upon encountering the police, quickly confessed, revealing that all the money came from stolen cryptocurrency, and spilled the beans about their boyfriend.
Ultimately, a few days ago, a federal judge in Miami sentenced him to 25 months in prison, after which he will be deported back to Canada.
