[Bloomberg: Risks Related to the GMO Hack Have Spread to the Japanese Credit Market] According to a Bloomberg report on October 29th, following the hack of Japanese IT giant GMO Internet, risks are spreading to the Japanese credit market. Market data shows that the spread on a Japanese yen bond maturing in June 2031 under GMO Internet widened to approximately 174 basis points on October 28th, up from approximately 122 basis points on October 20th, before the company disclosed the security incident, reflecting investor concerns about the company's profit damage and increased compensation costs.
GMO Internet previously suffered an attack that resulted in a suspected leak of customer information data. The company refused to pay a ransom and stated it planned to compensate customers for their losses. It is understood that GMO Internet operates the cryptocurrency exchange "(Z.com) EX," which has obtained licenses from the Thai Securities and Exchange Commission and the Thai Ministry of Finance. The exchange has disclosed that it has been acquired, involving all shares of the target company held by GMO Internet and its related subsidiaries. It is currently unclear whether the customer information data involves the cryptocurrency exchange.
