I'm transitioning from the mindset and trading system of a trend trader to that of a swing trader... and I'm actively trying to make this transition. Looking at the global financial markets as a whole, it seems that only large-scale dollar-cost averaging or long-term buying of Nasdaq, S&P 500, gold, and Bitcoin offers sufficient certainty and expected returns. For most people, time and capital are not on their side. They can only choose to use leverage or high volatility to try and profit in a relatively short period. If you don't have a talent for short-term trading, then swing trading is the first choice for most people. Or, knowing that this market isn't for them, leaving is probably the right choice.
