A $300 home-use mining rig has mined another Bitcoin block, netting approximately $250,000.
On October 27th, Bitcoin block number 973,413 was mined in solo mode on CKPool by a small device with a hashrate of only about 6.5 TH/s, netting 3.14 BTC, equivalent to about $250,000.
Mining rig manufacturer Altair Tech speculates that this device is likely Canaan's Avalon Nano 3S, priced at around $300. According to statistics from "Hashrate Heart," individual miners worldwide have mined 24 blocks in the past 12 months in solo mode, an increase of about 40% compared to the previous year.
However, based on the current network hashrate of approximately 1000 EH/s, the probability of a single Nano 3S mining a block in a year is only about one in three thousand, and the daily mining revenue from connecting to a mining pool wouldn't even cover the electricity costs.
Currently, these devices are mostly used as heaters or as a form of "lottery betting".
