Google plans to launch a crypto asset custody/security system, primarily targeting institutions and banks.
In summary, it's an MPC key management and signature service for crypto assets.
This means it can help banks/financial institutions more securely custody and transfer crypto and tokenized assets (including assets they hold for their clients).
Solving security and custody issues facilitates increased penetration of crypto assets.
Specifically,
It employs a Multi-Party Computation (MPC) model:
Private keys are split into fragments and distributed across different environments,
such as Google's own hardware + Google Cloud + other clouds.
Signing doesn't require concatenating the complete private key in one place,
reducing the risk of single point of failure.
It also supports adding institutional rules before transactions,
such as limits, whitelisted addresses, and multi-department approvals.
Banks or institutions retain control over the key fragments,
and Google cannot see the plaintext private keys.
Currently in private preview, several large financial institutions are testing it;
Alphabet (Google's parent company) is already using it to protect its digital assets on Ethereum.
It's scheduled to be officially commercialized in early 2027, it's coming soon.
