[US Department of Justice Investigates Nvidia's Acquisition of Hugging Face] According to a report by Yonhap News Agency citing Reuters on October 29, the US Department of Justice has launched an investigation into Nvidia's acquisition of Hugging Face. The investigation focuses on whether the $12.9 billion deal will give Nvidia control over core AI distribution nodes, and whether Nvidia can use the open-source AI model sharing platform to harm competitors or as a bargaining chip.
The investigation also covers Nvidia's acquisition, investment, and sales practices, including whether it pressured customers, such as whether it allocated more AI chips to customers who purchased network equipment and Groq processors after licensing Groq technology and recruiting core engineers, as well as the acquisitions of SchedMD and Run:ai in December 2025. The report states that the investigation does not imply evidence of illegality and does not necessarily lead to litigation; Nvidia stated that Hugging Face will remain open, and the transaction is expected to be completed in the first half of next year.
