On the same night, AI saw two different outcomes – isn't this a two-way race?
Google Cloud revenue doubled, then plunged 10% in after-hours trading;
Microsoft Azure rose 48%, and even gained 2.9% in after-hours trading.
Google (GOOGL) spent $51.4 billion on capital expenditures this quarter, resulting in a $9.1 billion loss in free cash flow and earnings per share of $2.12, nearly 30% lower than the market expectation of $3.01;
Microsoft (MSFT) spent $39.4 billion on capital expenditures, $6.5 billion less than expected, and Azure is expected to accelerate to 49%-50% next quarter.
Both are pouring money into AI, one has already shown returns, while the other is still burning through cash.
Frankly, AI is now in its acceptance phase; storytelling alone isn't enough, cash flow is what matters.
