[US-listed optical module leader Marvell reportedly plans to acquire optical chip leader Lumentum] BlockBeats reported on October 29th, citing Bloomberg and sources familiar with the matter, that US-listed chip company Marvell Technology (MRVL) is in advanced talks with data center optics manufacturer Lumentum Holdings (LITE) regarding an acquisition. The report states that the deal could be announced as early as next week, but negotiations remain private. Following the news, Lumentum's after-hours stock price rose approximately 11%, valuing the company at approximately $91 billion at the time; Marvell's after-hours stock price fell over 8%. Lumentum primarily manufactures optical components for communication networks and data centers. This sector has attracted increased investment as AI computing power drives demand for high-speed data transmission. Marvell's latest fiscal quarter showed approximately $3.92 billion in cash and cash equivalents. Bernstein analysts point out that the potential transaction size will test financing and integration capabilities, and it is unlikely to be completed entirely in cash. Marvell's stock price has nearly quadrupled this year, benefiting from demand for custom AI chips and networking products. If this acquisition goes through, it will further advance its strategic layout in optical technologies for AI infrastructure; the company announced late last year its acquisition of photonics technology company Celestial AI for $3.25 billion. Earlier this month, Marvell also raised its fiscal 2028 revenue forecast from $15 billion to $20 billion, citing strong demand for custom AI chips and data center networking products.
